Guinness World Records
Online database of fascinating and boring record facts. It includes an earth and space category with all kinds of geo-relevant facts. It is always good to know the extremes, since eveythingl else must fall somewhere in between. 20001027
Xrefer
Metareference tool that allows searching the full text of some 40 subject dictionaries, among which quotation dictionaries, the Penguin dictionary of places, a dictionary of sociology, the Bloomsbury thesaurus, the Oxford paperback encyclopaedia. Handy for quick general reference. Unfortunately there are no advanced search options (yet), so search results may be crowded by art and literary references. Xrefer has updated its contents with the 2001 MacMillan Encyclopadia. 20000616, updated 20001027
